The Seeds of Tarpuy: A Mother’s Voice from Cotacachi

“Before Fundación Kyllkay came, we didn’t know how to protect our seeds. We planted what we could find in the market, but those seeds weren’t ours. Now, we plant with knowledge, with purpose, and with memory.”
María Ramos, community member from Cotacachi

In the highlands of Cotacachi, María and her children used to rely on market seeds, unaware that many were genetically modified and dependent on chemicals. When Kyllkay’s Tarpuy Program arrived in their community, something changed.

Through ancestral seed-saving workshops, chakra revitalization, and agroecological mentoring, María now cultivates more than food—she grows autonomy. Her children help in the garden. They name each plant in both Kichwa and Spanish. They know where their food comes from.

María now mentors other mothers in neighboring communities. Her chakra is not only fertile, it is a classroom, a pharmacy, and a sanctuary.

🌱 Every time you support Fundación Kyllkay, you nourish stories like María’s.
